Community Engagement

Developing interaction and a relationship between communities and public art

Patrick leads stone carving workshops and community art projects that share the craft, rhythm and satisfaction of working directly with stone. He has delivered hands-on sessions for schools, community groups and arts organisations, encouraging participants of all ages and abilities to explore form, texture and mark-making through traditional carving techniques, as well as other media such as clay, papier-mâché and recycled materials.

These workshops often form part of larger public art projects, helping to shape ideas and strengthen connections between the artwork and the community it serves.

“I believe a sense of ownership of public art is fundamental to its success. By encouraging community participation from the outset, listening to concerns and implementing ideas, a genuine sense of ownership and appreciation can be generated.  Successful public art is unique to its place and speaks of that place.”
